Yarlington's History

Yarlington headquarters

Yarlington is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society, based in Yeovil, Somerset.

The organisation formed in 1999 as South Somerset Homes, where it purchased over 8,800 homes from Somerset Council and removed political influence. By 2003 South Somerset Homes became a charity with a £20m turnover and secured nationwide funding. The year also saw the creation of maintenance and commercial subsidiaries.

In 2009, the organisation rebranded as Yarlington. Yarlington's current Chief Executive, Gary Orr joined Yarlington in 2011 and the Building Communities strategy launched. Following this, Inspired to Achieve, joined Yarlington, providing support and services to our residents to help get them into employment, education and training.

Since 2011, Yarlington has come to own and manage over 10,000 properties across Somerset, Dorset and Devon, and continue to build affordable homes across the south west. As an organisation, Yarlington to date has achieved various successes, ranking number 12 in the Sunday Times Top 100 best not-for-profit organisations to work for, maintain high Moody's credit ratings, been rated Gold Investors in People and received awards for our developments and finance teams.

Now, in 2017, Yarlington has launched its new corporate strategy Yarlington Next-Gen which commits to building 1,500 new affordable homes, expand its development to Bristol and service customers more effectively.
