Inspired to Achieve (i2a), a social enterprise organisation that offer advice and guidance to help people secure employment, training or volunteering opportunities, has won a subcontract with Pluss to deliver a new employment support project.

The i2a project, part of the Building Better Opportunities programme, which is supported by the Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund, will commence in January 2017 and run for three years. It will work with disadvantaged people from across Somerset, aged 18 and over, to help them prepare for and secure employment. All participants must be unemployed or economically inactive and the focus will be on helping people furthest from the labour market and at the most risk of social inclusion.

Debra Scarratt, Head of i2a, said “We are delighted to have won this contract.  It’s a really exciting project which will enable i2a to be innovative in how we can support our customers in addition to traditional education and training, including team building events and chilcare.”

i2a is a subsidiary of Yarlington Housing Group and currently deliver employment support contracts for Yarlington, Taunton Deane Borough Council and are a sub-contractor of Prospects on The National Careers Service contract. The services i2a currently offer include personalised careers guidance, CV creation and interview techniques, educational advice, action planning, on-going support and reviews and weekly job clubs.

Debra added “i2a looks at how best to support people into positive employment and education destinations as we believe one size doesn’t fit all. As a result we have developed a diverse cross-sector menu of person centred services which see us working with individuals across the age spectrum.

“Employment is obviously one of the key outcomes of a project like this but we should never underestimate the importance of increasing the confidence of participants to progress onto other training, education or volunteering opportunities.

“Since April 2014, we have supported 442 people into employment and with on-going projects like this, we’ll now be able to support even more.”

Pluss is a social enterprise that supports thousands of people with disabilities and other disadvantages, helping them move into employment each year. With a turnover of over £19 million and a proven track record spanning more than 45 years, they are recognised as one of the leading national disability employment specialists in the UK.

Pluss Chief Executive, Steve Hawkins, concluded “Positive People will support thousands of disadvantaged people across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and neighbouring regions into sustainable employment.

“Securing the funds to deliver this programme is a proud moment. This result confirms that our partnership approach will deliver significant positive social change at a time when devolution means local areas are taking on more responsibilities for their own future.”
