Communal Cleaning

Yarlington undertakes cleaning of communal areas in general needs blocks of flats (internal stairwells and entrance ways).

A works programme with our in-house team commenced in 2011 working across South Somerset and Dorset. We also employ external contractors to carry out essential cleaning work in Bridgwater, Bathpool, Cullompton and Frome.

As from April 2016 our in-house team will be incorporating Axminster and Charmouth into their work schedule which was previous undertaken by our external contractors.

Please note all internal communal areas are "non smoking" zones and should be kept clear of any personal belongings.

What is Included?

Internal Areas:-

  • Remove litter
  • Vacuum carpets/entrance mats
  • Mop hard surface floors
  • Wipe down/dust features e.g. handrails, ledges, light fittings and skirtings etc
  • De-cobweb
  • Glass cleaning - internal
  • Wash down walls/surfaces to remove any marks
  • Clean lights (removing any dead insects)

External Areas:-

  • Sweep entrance ways within a 5 metre radius of the entrance ways
  • Clean bin stores by sweeping/litter picking (monthly) and disinfecting at least every 6 months.  Should there be any excess household rubbish which is causing an issue you may need to let your Community Co-ordinator know.

Fire Alarm & Emergency Lighting Testing:-

From April 2016 all fire alarms and emergency lighting testing will be undertaken montly on the same day and at the same time as the regular communal clean.  This operation is also carried out by contractor in our Bridgwater, Bathpool, Cullompton and Frome sites.

What about Communal External Windows?

This work is undertaken by a Contractor as follows:-

          Extra Care & Sheltered Housing:

  • Outside - every 8 weeks.
  • Inside - every 16 weeks.
  • Plastics (excluding gutters & fascias) - every 8 weeks.

          General Needs Blocks of Flats (Stairwells):

  • Outside - every 12 weeks.
  • Internal window cleaning is undertaken by our in-house Communal Cleaning Team.

          Hospital Accommodation:

  • Outside - every 12 weeks.
  • Gutters & fascias - every 6 months.

What about Gutters/Plastics/Fascias?

Yarlington's Programmed Works Department control this programme.  Works of this nature are undertaken every 5 years.  They are currently 2 years into their 5 year programme.
